BJP–JD(S): “Fulfil the Kuruba ST demand

Bangaluru:The writer strongly urges the BJP and JD(S) to immediately get the Kuruba (shepherd) community included in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) list before the upcoming district panchayat, taluk panchayat and other local body elections.
Key arguments:
Kurubas have been demanding ST status for decades through protests, delegations, padayatras, etc.
The state government (under Congress) has already sent the required “kulashastra” (caste study) report and other details to the Centre, but the Central government (BJP) and its ally JD(S) are delaying it with excuses.
Siddaramaiah (current Chief Minister, from the Kuruba community and a well-known AHINDA leader) is praised as a champion of social justice who has served the longest as CM.
The writer reminds BJP and JD(S) that the Kuruba community has voted for them in the past and should not be taken for granted.
JD(S) — especially H.D. Deve Gowda (who has direct access to Modi) and H.D. Kumaraswamy (Union minister who knows the community’s issues) — should use its influence at the Centre to get the ST notification issued quickly.
If they do this, the “milky-hearted, word-keeping” Kuruba community will wholeheartedly support them.
If they don’t, they will have no moral right to come and ask Kuruba votes in the local elections.
In short, it’s a clear pre-election warning/threat to BJP–JD(S): “Fulfil the Kuruba ST demand now, or don’t expect our votes in the panchayat polls.”
